Ebony Forest Discovery Tour

Choose Take a Hike for a more immersive walk through the forest (including shaded sections of the Ridgeline Trail), or go for Take a Drive if you prefer a relaxed visit with jeep access along the concrete road - ideal for covering key highlights with less walking.

It is recommended to arrive latest at 14h30 to access all areas of the site.

Note: Good walking shoes are essential, as the Ridgeline Trail has natural, uneven terrain. Families with small children or visitors with limited mobility are advised to use the jeep or the concrete path instead. For reaching Sublime Point, using the jeep is strongly recommended when visiting with children, as the walk can be tiring and steep in some sections.

Guided Birdwatching Tour through Ebony Forest

If you love birdwatching (or just love that peaceful forest soundtrack), this guided experience is a brilliant way to spot endemic species in one of Mauritius’ key sanctuaries.

Led by passionate conservationists, you’ll have the chance to observe rare species such as the Echo Parakeet, Pink Pigeon, Mauritius Paradise Flycatcher, Mauritius Bulbul, and the white-tailed tropicbird.

Guided Love Tree Tour at Ebony Forest - Plant Your Own Endemic Tree

This memorable experience includes a 4x4 guided tour through Ebony Forest, access to self-guided trails (including the Ridgeline Trail and the concrete path), and a walk along the Flycatcher Raised Walkway to Sublime Point.

The highlight? Planting and labelling your own endemic Love Tree. It’s a meaningful way to express your love, give back to nature, and support reforestation efforts - all while discovering the island’s unique biodiversity.

• The tree planting takes approximately 10 minutes, while the full Love Tree Tour (including the 4x4 jeep ride) lasts about 2 hours.

Ebony Forest Sublime Sundowner - Guided Tour & Open-Air Safari

This one is all about atmosphere. Enjoy an afternoon guided visit of Ebony Forest, a raised walkway tour to Sublime Point, and then an open-air safari through the forest as the light starts to change.

When the day visitors leave, you’ll get a quieter, more cinematic version of Ebony - sunset included, drink in hand if you like.

• Duration: 3 - 4 hours
• Minimum number of participants: 2 adults
• You can request a later jeep tour in summer (1st November - 31 March) as the sun sets later. Should you wish to do some hiking, come earlier. If you just want to watch the sunset, then this is also possible.

Flycatcher Raised Walkway - A guided 300m raised walkway experience, with 113 steps up and 142 down.

Sublime Point - One of the reserve’s most iconic viewpoints, with views towards Le Morne and the island’s mountain peaks. You can reach it via the Ridgeline Trail, Piton Canot Trail, or the concrete access from the jeep drop-off point.

• Clients are requested to descend before 17:00.
• Snacks can be bought at Sublime Point.

Safari Jeeps - Safari jeeps operate between the Flycatcher Raised Walkway, Sublime Point, and back to the Visitor Centre (pre-booking required).

All activities, including the Ebony Forest Discovery Tour, Birdwatching Tour, Love Tree Tour, and Sublime Sundowner, follow the same general routes - via the Ridgeline Trail or the concrete path - but each provides a unique perspective, from birdwatching to sunset safaris.

Note: Activity times depend on the slot booked. Missed time slots cannot be refunded or rescheduled.

Please plan your visit accordingly:

• Activities or facilities not included in your selected package are available at an additional cost.
• Reservations must be made and confirmed at least 48 hours in advance.
• Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult at all times; unaccompanied children will be denied access.
• Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled activity time.
• Comfortable shoes are recommended. For families with young children or visitors with limited mobility, the jeep or concrete path is advised instead of the Ridgeline Trail.
• The Flycatcher Raised Walkway reaches heights of over 4 m - please inform staff if you suffer from vertigo.

Rules and Regulations

• It is forbidden to bring any illegal substances, alcohol, firearms and/or generally any other object which is likely to be offensive, dangerous and/or is illegal.
• It is forbidden to disturb or harass the animals and tranquillity of Ebony i.e, by musical instruments, audio equipment, screaming, shouting etc.
• It is forbidden and a criminal offence to remove, any animal, plant, part of the landscape and/or any other structure and/or to damage or deface any of the aforesaid.
• It is forbidden for any visitors to picnic, climb stone walls or trees, or litter.
• Any food and drink purchased within Ebony Forest Reserve must be consumed within the designated zones.
• Footwear must be worn at all times. No shirtless/topless dress is allowed. Bottoms must be worn at all times.
• The Sanctuary shall not be responsible whatsoever, for any loss, damage and/or theft of your personal belongings.
• Ebony Forest Reserve is a natural site and hence there are risks from falling branches and steep slopes. It also undergoes active forestry activities. Please pay attention.

Transport is available for an extra fee, with pick-up and drop-off from any accommodation in Mauritius.

How is the Transportation Fare calculated?

For transportation not included as part of the tour, the fare is calculated based on the set activity duration, the distance between your accommodation and the activity location (round trip).

Transport Payment

The payment for transportation is divided into two parts:

"Deposit": Payable at the time of booking, alongside your activity reservation. This deposit covers a portion of the total transportation fare.

"Amount Due to Driver": The remaining balance is payable in cash directly to the driver on the day of the activity. This final amount is calculated by subtracting the deposit from the total transportation cost.
