Located between Baie du Cap and Le Morne in the south of Mauritius, La Prairie is a peaceful public beach known for its wide lagoon, open coastal scenery and relaxed atmosphere. Less developed than many beaches around the island, it offers a quieter and more natural setting, appreciated for its beautiful landscapes and slower pace.

One of the beach’s biggest highlights is its spectacular backdrop. Across the lagoon stands the unmistakable silhouette of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Le Morne Brabant.

On weekdays, the area tends to feel especially peaceful, while weekends may bring more local families and campers enjoying the coastline.

A Different Side of Mauritius

La Prairie feels very different from the busier resort beaches found elsewhere on the island. With very few permanent facilities, the beach has preserved much of its wild and open character.

Depending on weather conditions, the lagoon also attracts snorkelling enthusiasts, fishermen and kitesurfers, particularly near the more exposed sections closer to Macondé.
