The Experience at Odysseo - The Oceanarium of Mauritius

For those who love marine biology and biodiversity, this is the best place to visit.

The newly built oceanarium is located in the capital of the island, in Port Louis - close to the harbour, which will make you feel blended into the Ocean theme! Once you reach the oceanarium, prepare to face the cutest little fish which will remind you of Nemo to big scary sharks!

With its 5500m² of visiting domains, the oceanarium showcases some 45 different aquatic habitats comfortably hosted in 2000m³ of pristine water. Visitors will encounter some 200 species and 4,000 specimens of the Indian Ocean. 

You can take a break from your visit anytime to grab a light bite at the food garden and visit the Gift Shop to get yourself some souvenirs such as stuffed animals, t-shirts, books, jewellery, etc. to take home

Optional Guided Visit

Should you wish to learn more about the amazing ocean surrounding us and its great underwater life, you can opt for option 2 which includes a guided visit of the whole oceanarium. This will be an opportunity to ask questions you might have about the deep blue sea and its creatures.

The Domains at Odysseo Oceanarium

• The Lagoon - Jump off the boat and immerse yourself in the heart of the Mauritian territory: the lagoon, its calm waters and surprisingly rich biodiversity. Discover the life of this unique ecosystem with its beaches, brightly multi-coloured fish, seagrass beds, mangroves and coral reefs.
• Inland Forests - After the lagoon, it is now time for a small excursion inland. There, just like in the entire oceanarium, you will discover species in their habitat. Explore the lakes, rivers and forests, and say hi to their diverse freshwater, insect and reptile inhabitants.
• The Coral Reefs - As you leave the inland forest, dive into the majestic blue waters of the Indian Ocean to discover the coral reefs. This lively and fragile ecosystem will reveal its best kept secrets and astonishing biodiversity.
• Open Sea - Ready for a fully immersive experience? Stingrays, sharks, eels and a multitude of fish will swim alongside you when you pass through the tunnel. A real underwater trip without a scuba mask or tank.
• The Invertebrates - Did you know that invertebrates make up 95% of animal species on our planet? Journey through the fascinating world of these incredibly adaptive creatures and their fantastic evolutionary history.
• Sub Oceanic View - The mission: get people to understand sharks better. Unjustly persecuted, this fascinating prehistoric predator has adapted to our changing planet for millions of years and it is time to protect them. Discover, at the same time, how all oceans are interconnected.

Dining at Odysseo - The Oceanarium of Mauritius

If you ever need a small break or quick bite, there’s an outdoor food area with a kid’s playground, accessible exclusively to visitors of the oceanarium.

• Children 0 - 3 years enter free.
• Your visit will begin at your selected time. Arriving late will limit your time at the oceanarium.
• This package offers you 2 options and both include your entrance fee to the oceanarium.
• Visitors with reduced mobility can also enjoy all the wonders of the ocean through special amenities.
• Nursing and baby changing rooms are available to facilitate the visit of families with young children.

Option 2 (Full Guided Tour):

• Minimum number of participants: 4 pax
• Maximum number of participants: 20 pax
• Booking must be done 48 hours prior to the visit.

Note:

• No running inside the premises.
• No hands inside the tanks without the approval of the tutor.
• No single-use plastics, such as bottles and bags.
• Flash photography is prohibited inside the oceanarium.
• The participants must remain with their tutor at any time of the day and follow the instructions.
