Your Private Trip Along the Northern Coast
Your outing begins as you board your private speed boat and head out across the calm northern lagoon. Before setting off, the skipper gives you an overview of the day, explains the sea conditions and outlines the safety measures, including the use of life jackets provided for all guests.
As you cruise north, the outline of Flat Island and Gabriel Island becomes clearer on the horizon. Both are known for their clear waters and relaxed beach settings. You’ll have around 30 minutes of beach time on each island, giving you enough time to swim in the lagoon, walk along the shoreline or simply enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.
Flexible Snorkelling Sessions (20-30 minutes per stop)
Snorkelling is often the moment guests look forward to the most. Each stop generally lasts 20–30 minutes, but the duration can be adjusted depending on how long you want to stay in the water.
Your skipper joins you during the snorkelling session, helping you spot different species and guiding you around the reef. At Coin de Mire, visibility is usually excellent, and you may come across parrotfish, trumpetfish, needlefish, rays and occasionally sea turtles moving through the lagoon.
Coin de Mire is also known for its cliffside bird activity. It is one of the best places in the north to watch the paille-en-queue, the elegant white-tailed seabird often seen gliding around the rock face.
Alternative Routes
If the sea does not allow safe access to one of the islets, your skipper will propose alternative options that still offer good conditions for swimming or snorkelling. These may include:
- Île d’Ambre
- Île aux Bernaches
- The sheltered lagoon of Pereybere
- Extended snorkelling time near Coin de Mire
These alternatives ensure the outing remains enjoyable and well-adapted to the conditions on the day of your trip.
About the Islets
Gabriel Island
A well-known natural reserve with clear shallow waters and wide sandy beaches. It is popular for swimming and snorkelling close to the reef.
Coin de Mire
Located 8 km north of Mauritius, Coin de Mire offers excellent visibility and rich marine life. The cliffs of the island are home to several native birds, including the Mauritian paille-en-queue.
Flat Island
