About the Visit of Ferney Conservation Park
Hidden deep in the folds of the Grand Port mountains lies a place where time feels suspended: La Vallée de Ferney. This 200-hectare conservation sanctuary invites you on a guided walk through one of Mauritius’ most untouched and enchanting landscapes. What awaits is not merely a hike, but an adventure through a dreamlike forest brimming with secrets.
Wander beneath ancient trees that whisper stories of the past: from a majestic 300-year-old mango tree to cinnamon-scented bark, and others with perfumes as strange as detergent. Cross crystal-clear streams and follow shaded trails where wild mushrooms sprout like something out of a fantasy book. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of deer moving quietly through the trees.
Led by passionate and knowledgeable guides, the tour reveals some of Mauritius’ rarest and most iconic species: from the endangered Pink Pigeon and Mauritian Kestrel, to the mysterious Mauritian Parakeet. Along the way, you’ll also be introduced to endemic flora like aromatic spice plants, and a hauntingly beautiful white flower known by the unforgettable name: Kill-Your-Mother-in-Law – dangerously toxic, yet mesmerising in its beauty.
Every turn reveals another marvel, offering insights into Mauritius’ ecological richness. You’ll learn to recognise native species like the prized Ebony tree, Eugenia bojeri, Takamaka, and more as the path winds through mystical agri-forests, sun-dappled riverbanks, and valleys teeming with biodiversity.
As you step out of the forest and back into the world, you may find that La Vallée de Ferney has left a quiet kind of magic trailing behind you. More than just a visit, it’s a memory that lingers softly, blooming in your mind long after the path has ended.
